September Update and Informed Consent HRT Map

Hi everyone! I wanted to check in and share some updates on LGBTQ+ news from across the country since it's the start of the month. One thing I’m sure we’re all familiar with is the national attempts by conservatives to push anti-trans legislation that affects schools and children specifically. Recently however, a large survey was conducted in areas pushing anti-trans legislation that shows remarkable opposition towards the attempts to enforce bigoted policies. Notably, a majority of parents who responded to the survey indicated significant levels of concern at the idea of Republican policies such as book banning, censoring lesson plans, and of course the egregious idea of genital inspections before allowing kids to play sports. While a survey isn’t exactly going to dismantle the oppressive systems attacking queer kids, it is uplifting to see that the general public isn’t necessarily falling for the manipulative tactics utilized by the Republican politicians.

On a more positive note I wanted to share an extremely useful database of physicians that provide informed consent access to HRT in the United States. For anyone who isn’t aware, informed consent HRT is when you don’t have to have a therapist letter or any extraneous items in order to get an HRT prescription. Rather, all it takes is an educational discussion with your doctor and signing some papers. For a lot of trans people this is the only way to access life saving medication in a reasonable time span as the other route requires months of therapy and additional hoops to jump through. In fact, almost every trans person I know started with informed consent HRT. Erin’s Informed Consent HRT Map is put together by one of the most prominent independent transgender journalists, Erin Reed, and is one of the most useful resources for starting your transition journey, so it’s important to me to ensure as many people who need it know about it.
