  • The gender identity of a transgender person is innate and deeply personal.

  • Identity documents that do not correspond to the correct name and gender can negatively impact self-esteem of transgender people.

  • Accurate identification is crucial to transgender rights. In the United States Transgender Survey (USTS), 22% of respondents reported verbal harassment, assault, being asked to leave, or being denied services for presenting an ID whose name or gender did not match their appearance.

  • The pathway to updated legal documents is labyrinth and time-consuming and this process far exceeds the research and execution abilities of many individuals we serve.

  • A vast majority of states do not currently have a nonprofit or state service providing the completion of documents and filing, instead providing a loose self-help guide.

  • Each US state, and most US counties, have unique, often-evolving requirements, which further exacerbates the difficulty,

  • Lastly, updated name and gender marker documentation also exceeds the financial resources of most of our clients.
