Hello, I'm Aria, a trans woman and co-founder of Your Identity Transitions. My journey of transitioning began in 2021, and it was a path filled with both fear and confusion. Embracing my true self was a monumental step, but it came with its own set of challenges, particularly when it came to aligning my legal identification with my real name and gender marker.
"It felt so awful having to show my dead name and old ID anytime I had to present identification."
For me, and many others in the transgender community, the process of changing legal information is not just a bureaucratic hurdle; it's a deeply personal journey. The fear of being outed by an outdated ID was so overwhelming that it affected my social life. The thought of showing my ID to a bartender or during any routine activity was enough to make me avoid going out altogether.
Despite the overwhelming nature of the legal system, I was determined to make a change. I turned to the internet for guidance but found the information too complex and intimidating. The uncertainty of the process was a source of massive discomfort. It was then that I decided to seek help from my family.
With my mother's support, I navigated the intricate legal requirements in Texas. From deciphering court language to undergoing the intimidating experience of being fingerprinted by the Texas State Police, I faced each challenge head-on. After months of trial and error, I successfully changed my legal information.
"I had no more fear of outing myself when I have to present my driver's license for common life activities."
This victory was not just personal; it inspired me to help others in the transgender community. Recognizing the complexities and emotional toll of the process, I co-founded Your Identity Transitions, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting queer individuals in updating their legal documents.

At Your Identity Transitions, we offer a hands-free, relaxed experience for our clients. The process begins with a free consultation to understand each individual's unique needs. From there, we handle everything—from filing petitions for name and gender marker changes to applying for amended birth certificates, driver's licenses, and passports.
My journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of living authentically. In a world where trans and queer individuals face increasing challenges, organizations like Your Identity Transitions provide crucial support. Every person deserves to live as their true self, free from fear and discomfort.
